Swedish 5-piece The Amazing make some extremely unassuming music that sounds wildly out of step with 2018 and more like the kind of thing you’d hear in that weird hinterland between the end of Brit Pop and the emergence of all those bands who sounded like The Strokes.
2018 Music
2018 Playlist: Rose Petals – S. Carey
Distant echoey strumming and softly cooed vocals from guy who does that for a living, S. Carey.
2018 Playlist: You’ll Be Alright – Mellow Fellow, Teenage Granny
You’ll Be Alright by Mellow Fellow and Teenage Granny is a fun old time if you like fidgety bedroom pop. Which clearly I do.
2018 Playlist: You’re My – Indoor Voices
Indoor Voices is such a great name for a band and You’re My is sounds like it could have been plucked off My Bloody Valentine’s Isn’t Anything, so it has that going for it.
2018 Playlist: this is heaven and id die for it – American Pleasure Club, Teen Suicide
Woozy, distorted slacker-rock from American Pleasure Club and Teen Suicide on this is heaven and id die for it – and I apparently can’t get enough of that chord change in the bridge bit. You’ll know the one.
2018 Playlist: Lemon Glow – Beach House
Beach House are back! Or at least they were a few months ago when they released Lemon Glow – an ‘extremely Beach House song’ that opens with little de-tuned keyboard stab things that sound like they must have been pretty fun to make and then loads of sythny growls and strangled guitar bits. Real good.
2018 Playlist: 5200 Maxo Kream
I might have mentioned before, but I suck at writing about hip hop, rap, trap etc. (“You suck at everything else too!” Yeah, fair cop…) Here’s Maxo Kream‘s 5200. It’s good, just don’t expect me to tell you for why.
2018 Playlist: Cool – Soccer Mommy
Cool is absolutely impeccable growly, grungey pop that doesn’t so much fade out as de-tune out and I liked that a lot. Good job, Soccer Mommy.
